Our high school prides itself on a Judaic Studies program that prepares our students to study Torah confidently in all its fullness. The curriculum is broad, incorporating classes in Gemara, Torah She’ba’al Peh, Chumash, Nach, Halacha, Hashkafa, and contemporary issues. The faculty places a high emphasis on student engagement through small classes, structured chavruta time, student-centered collaborative projects, and the integration of technology, which combine to create a learning environment that is both exciting and dynamic.
Our high school Judaic Studies faculty places a strong emphasis on forming relationships with students outside of school. Rebbeim’s houses are open to students on Shabbat and throughout the week for a warm cholent, a lively kumzitz, or a great dvar Torah.
Our personalized General Studies program challenges each student at the appropriate level, encourages them to explore areas of academic interest, and fosters individual growth and development in a supportive and family-like environment.
The high school academic program prepares students for the rigors of college, and instills a lifelong love of Torah and secular learning. We offer a wide variety of academic courses. Courses offered are based on the need and interests of our students, and thus vary from year to year.
Hebrew language plays a major role in the students’ learning and is a tool for understanding limudei kodesh (religious studies) as well as appreciating Zionism and the Jewish religion, and Israel’s language and culture. Students are grouped by ability and have the opportunity to advance at their own pace.
Kadimah’s Hebrew course integrates four areas of language development: Reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students are exposed to daily life in Israel through conversations and texts, and are encouraged to use the vocabulary taught. In Hebrew literature, we cover stories related to holidays as well as short novels. Students are also expected to gain an understanding of Hebrew grammar, such as verb patterns and the noun system.
We approach physical education and health courses with the intention of providing a healthy balance to the rigorous intellectual work of the school day. Our goal is that our students will learn valuable life lessons from the discipline of individual and team sports.
Numerous studies point to the benefit of physical activity and exercise as a break in the school schedule, so after PE students come back to class energized and ready to learn! Among the values that the coaches and administration aim to instill in the students from their athletic experience are benefits of physical activity for good health, problem solving, teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, practice and effort, and school spirit.
Physical Education (athletics) classes rotate through many different options and activities. Both girls’ and boys’ classes do strength training and conditioning, cardiovascular exercise, and sports that increase coordination. Athletics takes place out-of-doors whenever possible, to further enhance the quality of the “break” that this class can provide for the students. We also offer several extra-curricular sports opportunities such as basketball and cross-country.
